A band of showers and thunderstorms near Oahu is expected to weaken today as a passing upper-level disturbance continues to move away from the island. However, lingering showers will continue for the smaller islands through the rest of the week, forecasters at the National Weather Service said.
Kona winds will continue to provide moisture, volcanic haze and spectacular sunsets for the next several days.
A strong thunderstorm earlier today over Central Oahu prompted the National Weather Service to issue a special weather statement and flood advisory for the island. Both were canceled around 11:12 a.m.
Heavy rain, thunder and lightning caused the city Department of Parks and Recreation to close the Kaneohe and Kailua district parks and the pools at K. Mark Takai Veterans’ Memorial Aquatics Center.
Rain had been falling at up to 3 inches per hour.
