Sarah Toeaina became the 21st 1,000-point scorer in Hawaii women’s basketball history, but her 18 points were not enough for the Rainbow Wahine in a 70-58 loss to Cal State Northridge tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH (8-12, 1-6 Big West) remained mired in eighth place mainly because of CSUN center Channon Fluker, who powered her way to 34 points and 17 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 junior shot 13-for-20 from the field in giving the Matadors (11-9, 4-2) a 34-14 advantage in paint points.

Forward Kenna Woodfolk contributed 17 points and Julissa Tago 11 for UH, which hosts UC Riverside at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

UH led by four after a quarter, lost the lead, but reclaimed it for a 35-31 halftime advantage.

Tago banked in a 3 to end a CSUN 9-0 third-quarter run and bring UH within 46-44. Woodfolk and Claudia Ramos traded 3s to keep it a four-point game going into the fourth quarter.

Toeaina reached the thousand mark on a backdoor cut to start the fourth. Her rare 3-pointer, just her second of the season, brought UH within 55-52.

But Fluker passed out to Hayley Tanabe for a 3 to beat the shot clock, good for a six-point lead with three minutes left. UH was unable to catch up from there.
