Big Isle police seek information on rash of suspicious brush fires
Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the culprits responsible for three brush fires that occurred one after the other Monday.
The first fire occurred just before 8:25 a.m.Monday on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) near the 12-mile marker. Firefighters responded and quickly extinguished the blaze that charred about 1,000 square-feet area of vegetation and dry brush.
About 10 minutes later, firefighters responded to another small brush fire on the south side of Waikoloa Road near the 10-mile marker. Firefighters immediately extinguished the fire that burned about 50 feet of vegetation and brush.
Just after 9:15 a.m., firefighters responded to the third brush fire, also on the south side of Waikoloa Road near Uluwehi Street.
Police said firefighters extinguished the blaze that scorched about 1,000-square feet of vegetation and brush.
No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged. A damage estimate has yet to be determined.

Police deemed the fires as suspicious and are continuing their investigation.
