Coast Guard seeking owner of adrift kayak near Iroquois Point

The U.S. Coast Guard seeks the public’s help identifying the owner of an unmanned green, blue and white kayak found adrift about two miles south of Iroquois Point on Oahu today.

At about 10:58 a.m., the Sector Honolulu command center received notification from a good Samaritan that he had recovered an unmanned kayak while boating in the area.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point was diverted from a training mission and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Honolulu was launched to search the area. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu also issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast notice to mariners to keep a sharp lookout eye for signs of distress.

There are currently no reports of missing persons in the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sector Honolulu at 842-2600.
