Reef runway reopens after body is discovered

A body was found today when state Department of Transportation crews were alerted of an object on the airport’s runway.

Law enforcement authorities are investigating the discovery of a body today near the reef runway at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

The body was found about 12:15 p.m. when state Department of Transportation crews were alerted of an object on the runway. No other details were immediately available.

The reef runway was closed during the investigation, and reopened just after 6 p.m., the department said by email.

Airport operations continued on the other three runways and no delays were reported, the department said.
