The Hawaii Swish of the semi-pro American Basketball Association announced an 18-player roster for today’s 7 p.m. season-opening game against Southwest Atlanta at the Blaisdell Arena.

Vulcans edge Academy of Art in overtime
Safia Sheikh and Allie Navarette combined for 45 points as the Hawaii Hilo women’s basketball team edged Academy of Art in a 68-63 overtime win in Hilo on Friday. Sheikh recorded 23 points, while Navarette contributed 22 points for the Vulcans (4-4, 2-3 PacWest). Pre’Franz Dominick scored 26 points for the Urban Knights (2-14, 1-7 PacWest).
>> Alysha Marcucci posted a game-high 17 points as Hawaii Pacific defeated Holy Names 86-46 on Friday at the Neal Blaisdell Arena. The Hawks fell to 2-13 overall and 1-6 in the PacWest, while the Sharks improved to 10-2 and 4-1.
>> Despite an 18-point performance by sophomore Destiny Castro, the Chaminade women’s hoops squad fell to Notre Dame de Namur 77-55 on Friday at McCabe Gym. Kali Benavente added 16 points for the Silverswords (1-6, 1-4 PacWest). Aubrey Mendonca led the Argonauts (7-7, 4-2 PacWest) with 16 points in the win.
HPU men’s hoops fall short to Holy Names
The Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team fell short to Holy Names 79-78 on Friday at the Blaisdell Arena. Jonathan Janssen led four Sharks in double-digit scoring with 25 points. HPU dropped to 8-5 overall, 3-2 in PacWest play. Jewels Sanders scored 20 points for the Hawks (7-9, 3-4 PacWest).
>> Hawaii Hilo fell to Academy of Art 74-64 on Friday in Hilo. Devin Johnson finished with 23 points for the Vulcans (4-8, 3-2 PacWest). Kendall Brown led the Urban Knights (5-9, 4-4 PacWest) with 15 points.
>> Chaminade’s Austin Pope tallied 20 points in a 67-53 win over Notre Dame de Namur on Friday at McCabe Gym. Justin Bridges added 12 points for the Silverswords (8-4, 3-2 PacWest). RJ Louis scored 17 points for the Argonauts (2-9, 1-4 PacWest).
