Kidnapping suspects sought on Big Island

A Hawaii island woman was in the hospital this evening after she was allegedly kidnapped today from a home in Puna.

One suspect turned himself into police today and was released pending investigation. Police were seeking three others in the case.

The suspects took the victim, Rochelle “Shelly” Guyer, 31, at gunpoint from her cousin’s home in Hawaiian Beaches, where she had been staying, around 10 a.m., according to Guyer’s mother, Agnes Nathaniel.

In a message posted to her Facebook feed, Nathaniel identified two of the suspects as Nicole Nasario and Josh Sosa and said the pair, “put a gun to my daughter’s head hit (her) with a crowbar and put her in the back of the trunk and kidnapped her.”

Nathaniel said that she was not with her daughter at the time of the incident and is not sure if or how Guyer knows Nasario and Sosa.

Nathaniel told the Star-Advertiser that at some point her daughter was taken to the home of Nasario’s mother, Vicki Nasario, who dropped off Guyer at the Hawaiian Beaches residence around 7 p.m.

“She knew her daughter had her and she didn’t tell the police,” Nathaniel said of Vicki Nasario. “She should be arrested, too.”

Nathaniel said her daughter was taken to Hilo Medical Center with injuries suffered from the initial assault. She said her daughter’s hair had also been cut off.

Police confirmed this afternoon that they were searching for Sosa, 25, and Nasario, 26, as well as 32-year-old Claude Carvalho and 34-year-old Paul Alisa. Alisa turned himself in to police this evening and was released pending investigation.

The remaining suspects were still at large as of 9 p.m. tonight and were considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Alisa, Sosa and Nasario are familiar to local police.

Alisa was earlier arrested after a police search of his residence on Dec. 6 turned up a crystal methamphetamine smoking pipe and other drug paraphernalia. He was previously charged with second-degree theft of a sport utility vehicle and first-degree forgery stemming from an arrest in April.

Sosa’s criminal history includes a 2013 arrest for robbery and assault. Nasario was arrested in October on suspicion of theft; she also has a prior arrest for a pair of contempt of court charges.

No motive has been established for the kidnapping but Nathaniel said she had been told by people close to her daughter that Nasario and Sosa blamed Guyer for a truck that had been stolen.

Nathaniel said she was glad that her daughter was found alive but was critical of the police department, which she felt did not act with urgency in her daughter’s case.

She said she informed police that Nicole Nasario was at her mother’s residence on this evening — a tip she received from people in the area — but police did not act on the information until after Nasario had already left.
