Here’s a New Year’s resolution for anyone spending much of the workday sitting in front of a computer: Stand up and move around more. Strategies can range from simply standing for meetings to the opting for treadmill desks or chairs that come with resistance bands for on-the-job strength training. Prolonged sitting has been linked to a host of health troubles. Plus, the push for more movement is backed up in a new Drexel University study titled, “If Sitting Is the New Smoking, What Does This Mean for Employers? A Look at Potential Worker’s Compensation Claims in the Sedentary Workplace.”
Recreational cannabis use rises in California
With California now among eight states where recreational cannabis use is legal, can Hawaii be far behind? Hard to say. Back in 2000 the Aloha State was among the first to allow medicinal use, but authorization for dispensaries began taking shape only a few years ago.
What we can count on is more robust debate. Because cannabis use still lacks legal standing with the federal government, growers, processors and retailers cannot open accounts or access lines of credit from federally insured banks. But that’s not stopping entrepreneurs from crafting infused bakery goods, designing specialized farming gear and other pot-related pursuits.
