Grand jury indicts Big Isle man for child pornography
A grand jury has indicted a 35-year-old Mountain View man for allegedly possessing over 960 files of child pornography.
Albert Reginald Carvalho Jr. was indicted Wednesday with two counts of promoting child abuse in the second-degree for possessing videos and images of child sexual abuse on his laptop computer and cell phone.
A bench warrant has been issued for his arrest. Bail is set at $11,000.
Carvalho is accused of possessing at least 962 files of children being sexually exploited. More than half of the files involve children under age 12.
“These charges involving sexual exploitation are horrific in scale,” said State Attorney General Doug Chin in a news release. “This is abuse with a lasting negative impact on children. My office will prosecute those who engage in this destructive behavior.”
The Hawaii Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Homeland Security and the Hawaii County Police Department conducted the investigation that led to charges against Carvalho.
