A couple charged in the brutal murder of a 51-year-old woman on the North Shore pleaded not guilty in Circuit Court today.

Stephen Brown, 23, and Hailey K. Dandurand, 20, appeared in court before Judge Colette Garibaldi after the two were indicted Tuesday with second-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and first-degree burglary in Telma Boinville’s death.

The couple appeared together in court via closed-circuit video link from the Oahu Community Correctional Center.

Deputy public defender Darcia Forrester entered the not guilty plea on Brown’s behalf and defense attorney Kenji Akamu entered the not guilty plea on Dandurand’s behalf.

Brown also pleaded not guilty to a fourth-degree criminal property charge for allegedly kicking the window out of a police vehicle while being transported to the Honolulu Police Department’s main headquarters from the Wahiawa police station.

Dandurand also pleaded not guilty to second-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information. Police found Boinville’s Bank of Hawaii card in Dandurand’s shirt pocket.

Garibaldi confirmed Brown’s bail at $1 million and Dandurand’s bail at $500,000. Their trial is scheduled for the week of Feb. 19.

On Dec. 7, two visitors found Boinville’s body in a pool of blood inside a home they rented on Ke Iki Road near Pupukea Beach Park. They exited the rental and called 911 after they heard what sounded like footsteps on the second floor.

Police responded and found a bloody hammer, knife and mallet near Boinville’s body.

Boinville died of blunt and sharp force injuries to her head and sustained 31 injuries to her body.

Her 8-year-old daughter was found alive upstairs, with her hands and feet bound and her mouth taped.

Police said the child identified Brown and Dandurand from photos her father received from social media after he and the child’s uncle sought the public’s help in locating the suspects.

Police located and arrested Brown and Dandurand at the Town Center of Mililani.
