As a longtime ardent feminist, I’m having second thoughts about my self-identification.
While I’ve always believed in women’s equality and empowerment in all areas, it’s alarming to see our women in Congress declare war on men who have shown any sexual insensitivity over the years, despite their demonstrated commitment to women and minorities.
As a Democrat, I find it naive if they feel that “taking the high road” will have any impact on the admirers of admitted groper Donald Trump or alleged child molester Roy Moore.

Taxpayers pay to settle claims
As I follow President Donald Trump’s path, I find that some within Congress have paid off women using taxpayers’ money. When did our taxes become available for the government to use to cover up these sexual allegations?
How is the money transferred to these victims and how is the money accounted for? This in itself is inappropriate, yet not investigated or audited. How many more political leaders will step down as this women’s movement against sexual harassment ramps up?

Tax plan won’t help president’s fans
President Donald Trump and all his political accomplices must be very proud of themselves. They’ve managed to get through almost the entire first year of his presidency without a single worthwhile accomplishment.
I wonder how his already-waning popularity will fare when the minority of people who voted for him realize that this much-ballyhooed tax overhaul doesn’t benefit most of them in any way, shape or form; it’s primarily a glorified handout for fat cats in mansions and penthouses.
On top of that, the Republicans are actually eyeballing programs that help poor people for possible cuts, to help offset lost federal revenue from these tax breaks.
Trump’s campaign slogan should have been: “Make the Rich Richer, and Everyone Else Can Drop Dead.”

‘Poor doors’ plan discriminatory
I just have to respond to your article about the 41-story condo planned on Keeaumoku, and the “poor door” for the affordable units (“Council panel holds up tower over ‘poor door’,” Star-Advertiser, Dec. 6). Outrageous!
So, the poor people who are struggling to own, rent and live in Honolulu will be banned from the pool, cabanas and gym. Regardless of whether everyone will be paying the same condo association dues, this is the most disgusting, discriminatory plan ever. Rich people enjoy all the amenities and the rest go through the back door.
What’s next? Separate drinking fountains?
