Handmade crafts by prison inmates are showcased in holiday sale

Gently priced objects made by inmates on Oahu and the neighbor islands will be on sale, along with fresh produce grown on a correctional facility farm.

Find hand-crafted furniture, salvaged-hardwood bangles and bowls, clocks, quilted items and more at Hawaii Correctional Industries’ Holiday Showcase Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Gently priced objects made by inmates on Oahu and the neighbor islands will be on sale, along with fresh produce grown on a correctional facility farm.

Inmates receive skills training and modest pay for their work, and a portion of sale proceeds goes to a crime victims’ fund. Regular hours are Monday through Friday at the second-floor Hawaii Correctional Industries Sales Showroom, 801 Dillingham Blvd., above Max’s of Manila restaurant, across from Costco in Iwilei.

The store reported receiving a new shipment of goods from its Big Island woodshop for the sale, with odds-and-end furniture pieces marked down as much as 70 percent.
