The late “Uncle Tom” Moffatt will be remembered Sunday when the Musicians Institute of Hawaii presents “A Christmas Celebration Music Recital” from 1-4 p.m. at The Mixx, 434 Piikoi St. Admission is free; food and beverages will be available.
Topping the list of participants in terms of actually having a direct link to the famed radio deejay, record producer and concert promoter is George Chun, who worked with Moffatt for many years and whose own credits in the record business go back a half-century. The other instantly recognizable participant is veteran island recording artist Rolando Sanchez, who has been “el rey de la musica tropical en Hawaii” ever since he took the lead in taking contemporary Latin outside Hawaii’s local Puerto Rican and Hispanic military communities in the late 1980s.
Also sharing their talents will be Kama‘a Barquez, Michelangelo Barquez, Jamie Brown, Gabriel Ko, Roman Kuahu, Janie Masunaga, Al Parez, Elzbieta Pettingill, Avelino Rene, Makoaihilani Rezentes and Paul Toyama.
The musicians are dedicating their performances to Moffatt. He died Dec. 12, 2016.

Police catch man, 26, accused of sexual assault
A 26-year-old Koloa man accused of sexually assaulting two women in Koloa, Kauai, Sunday morning was caught Monday.
Kauai police found and arrested Jesse Korn at 9 p.m. Monday in a unit at Kawailehua Housing on Paanau Road. Police said he broke into two different units and sexually assaulted the women.
Police informally charged him on suspicion of three counts of first-degree sexual assault, one count of kidnapping and two counts of first-degree burglary, said Kim Tamaoka, spokeswoman for Kauai County. Korn was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
He will be formally charged when he appears in court later this week, Tamaoka said.
After the alleged sexual assaults against the women, ages 39 and 35, were reported, about 20 officers and detectives, along with Air 1 helicopter, searched for Korn Sunday.
