Kaiser’s Malia Nam opened with a 67 — the low round of the tournament — and ran away with the Girls 15-18 title at last weekend’s Michelle Wie HSJGA Tournament of Champions.
Wie, the title sponsor and a Hawaii State Junior Golf Association alum, was at Wailea’s Emerald Course for the annual year-end event. It was the 16th year the TOC has been held at Wailea Golf Club.
Nam, who will play for USC in the fall, finished at 5-under 139. That was nine strokes ahead of Maui’s Reese Guzman (73—148). Kamie Hamada, who will play for New Mexico next fall, took third.
Evan Kawai won the Boys 15-18 title with rounds of 71-72, finishing three ahead of Remington Hirano and five ahead of Kolbe Irei.
Younger champions were Mira Kubo (7-10), Raya Nakao (11-12) and Lana Calibuso-Kwee (13-14) for the girls and Bryce Toledo-Lue (7-10), Joshua Chung (11-12) and Peter Jung (13-14) for the boys.
Kubo finished at 77—159. Nakao shot 74 both days and Calibuso-Kwee 75—147. Toledo-Lue’s winning score was 80—164, Chung’s 77—151 and Jung’s 74—145.
