Wahine basketball team tops Montana State
The Hawaii women’s basketball team dialed up its offense to prevail in a see-saw battle against Montana State, 81-75, tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH (5-3) shot 55.6 percent from the field, getting a career-high-tying 25 points from Sarah Toeaina, 21 from Julissa Tago and 19 from Lahni Salanoa. Kenna Woodfolk added 10 points and five rebounds.
Salanoa hit a big 3-pointer for a 70-64 lead with three minutes left, but she exited on the play with an apparent foot injury.
The Rainbow Wahine saw that lead trimmed to one but held tight behind a big offensive rebound and free throws by Toeaina and a key reverse layup on a set play by Tago. Woodfolk, Tago and Toeaina went 6-for-8 from the foul line in the final minute to seal the win.
The MSU Bobcats (5-4) of the Big Sky hit 10 3-pointers, including six in the second quarter, to stay in the game. They last led by five midway through the third quarter.
UH continues play at home Friday against Idaho State (5-3).
