A 90-year-old woman died today after being pulled out of a burning house in Ewa Beach, according to a neighbor and a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.

Neighbors and Honolulu property tax records identified the woman as Lillian Fisher.

About 7:10 p.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to a report of a fire on Pupu Street and saw light smoke billowing from the residence. Firefighters entered the home and discovered Fisher unresponsive with no pulse, fire Capt. David Jenkins said.

Fisher was taken in critical condition to a hospital by Emergency Medical Services. No one else was in the home at the time. The fire had started in the kitchen and was brought under control by 7:45 p.m., Jenkins said.

An investigation into the fire was ongoing today, and a cause and damage estimate were not yet available.

Neighbor Earl Arakaki said he went to check on a neighbor’s house while his neighbor is away when he found firefighters battling the blaze. He said he saw firefighters on top of the house and flames rising from the center of the roof.

Arakaki recalled Fisher as a “quiet lady” who had lived in the home for decades.

He saw her almost every evening, while walking his dog around the neighborhood.

“We miss her now,” Arakaki said.

Neighbors said Fisher’s adult son was coming to Hawaii from the mainland. Fisher attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a Catholic church in Ewa Beach.
