Seven high school players and two junior-college transfers make up the University of Hawaii baseball program’s 2019 signing class announced on Wednesday.
Four pitchers, two infielders a catcher, an outfielder and a probable two-way player submitted national letters of intent during the fall signing period.
The group includes Kamehameha pitcher Blaze (Koali’i) Pontes and Kamehameha-Hawaii catcher Dallas Duarte. Pontes was a first-team All-ILH and All-State pick last season after going 6-1 with a 0.95 earned-run average. Duarte made the All-BIIF first team.
UH also signed right-handers Taylor Burns (Bakersfield, Calif.), Aaron Davenport (Duvall, Wash.) and Joey O’Brien (Okinawa, Japan); infielders Tyler Best (Eagle, Idaho) and Cooper Bowman (Rapid City, SD); outfielder/infielder Scotty Scott (Cypress, Texas) and left-handed pitcher/outfielder Connor Butler (Eagle, Idaho).
Burns (Bakersfield College) and O’Brien (College of Southern Nevada) are the only junior-college transfers.
