The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for east-facing shores of most major Hawaiian isles early this morning, in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Surf along the east facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island is expected to rise quickly, exceeding advisory levels of 6 to 10 feet this afternoon and then peak tonight to 10 to 14 feet through Friday near warning levels.

Dangerous beach conditions will result due to a combination of large surf and strong currents, according to the advisory, with some overwash on to vulnerable coastal roadways possible late tonight through Friday morning hours.

A small craft advisory is also in effect, with east winds of 20 to 25 knots, until 6 a.m. tomorrow.
