CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in two recent robberies — one in an elevator at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the other at a Halawa McDonald’s.
In the Hilton Hawaiian Village robbery, at about 9:15 a.m. Monday, a man followed two Japanese visitors into the resort’s Rainbow Tower elevator, brandished a handgun and demanded their bags. He shoved and kicked both victims out of the elevator after obtaining their bags, then with the gun threatened a hotel employee who attempted to help them, CrimeStoppers coordinator Chris Kim said. The suspect fled the area on foot.
He is described as between 20 and 30 years old, about 140 pounds, and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black T-shirt, jeans and light-colored baseball cap.
In Halawa, two males are wanted for robbing the McDonald’s restaurant over the weekend using machetes.
Police said at about 5:45 a.m. Saturday, two masked males entered the fast-food restaurant and attempted to take money from the registers, but couldn’t get them open.
Kim said the employees ran to the back of the restaurant and locked themselves inside a room. Meanwhile, two customers were in the McDonald’s with the robbers. When one emerged from the bathroom, the men were startled and fled with nothing.
Police opened a first-degree robbery investigation.
The first suspect was described as 5 feet 4 inches tall with a slim build. He was wearing a black or gray hooded jacket with black pants and a white mask. The second suspect was described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build and wearing a black or blue hooded jacket, black shorts and a white mask. Both males were wielding machetes.
Kim said anyone with information can contact CrimeStoppers anonymously by using a free mobile app called P3 Tips, or by calling 955-8300 or *CRIME from a cellphone.
Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified the Halawa McDonald’s as the Salt Lake McDonald’s.
