Road closures begin in Waikiki for Trump trip

ASSOCIATED PRESS

President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Hawaii on Friday during a trip to Asia where he is expected to participate in a series of events including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

The city began Waikiki road closures at 9:45 Thursday night.

Traffic control barricades were installed on Kalakaua and Kuhio avenues, allowing for only two travel lanes on Kalakaua between Kuhio and Saratoga Road.

Kuhio is closed between Olohana and Kaiolu streets.

The city is diverting mauka-bound traffic on Saratoga to Kalakaua.

The closures will remain in effect until Saturday.

Ala Wai Boulevard will be contraflowed for motorists to get to Kalaimoku and Launiu streets.

Police will be on site to assist drivers.
