ASSOCIATED PRESS

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump walk on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington. Trump’s visit to Hawaii will cause a lot of road and sidewalk closures in the Waikiki area.

Travel in Waikiki — by vehicle or on foot —will be difficult on Friday and early Saturday.

Releasing a list of road and sidewalk closures this afternoon, the city is advising the public to expect heavy traffic and delays particularly in Waikiki during President Donald Trump’s visit.

“Road and sidewalk closures on the west end of Waikiki will severely impact pedestrian and vehicle traffic from Friday to Saturday morning,” the city said in a press release.

During the presidents visit the following street closures are anticipated in Waikiki, with pedestrian access prohibited in some areas:

>>Kuhio Avenue between Kalaimoku and Kaiolu Streets

>>Kalaimoku Street between Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues

>>Two mauka lanes of Kalakaua Avenue between Kalaimoku and Saratoga

For security reasons, specific routes and times will not be released.

And on Friday afternoon, there will also be freeway and road closures.

East-bound traffic between Pearl Harbor and Waikiki is scheduled to be affected from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and again from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. West-bound traffic between Waikiki and Pearl Harbor will be affected from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Public transportation (TheBus and TheHandi-Van) services will also be delayed. Some bus stops will also be closed in Waikiki. Please call 848-5555 or go to www.thebus.org for more transit information.
