A program that helps landlords get paid and helps to keep tenants from being evicted has expanded to Kauai.
The Steps to Avoid Eviction program, which has been successful on Oahu and in Maui County, guides homeowners and tenants to resolve disputes without going to court. Its goals are to teach renters how to avoid evictions and to ensure that landlords can consistently collect rental income that is due.
The potential impact for Kauai is strong. A recent U.S. Census Bureau study indicated that 25 percent of the island’s 30,238 housing units are occupied by renters.
The STAE brochure is available through numerous Kauai agencies. Program information can be found at bit.ly/29MX4Cg, and the Kauai brochure is at bit.ly/2hsfJY7.
