Police on Saturday captured the second of two escapees from Kauai Community Correctional Center.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., police received information that Kamoelii Kolo, a 35-year-old Anahola man, was sighted at the Hanapepe River crossing in Hanapepe Valley. When officers arrived, Kolo fled on foot, police said.
He was armed with knives in each hand, so officers hit him with a Taser, and he was taken into custody without further incident, police said.
Kolo was brought to Wilcox Hospital for medical clearance before he was booked at the Lihue cellblock, where he remained pending transfer back to the state Department of Public Safety.
Kolo had escaped Wednesday with 36-year-old Joshua Preston of Lihue during recreation time at the facility. Police captured Preston at Wailua Golf Course after a four-hour search.
Both were in the prison’s minimum security furlough program.
Senia owners to open new place on Maui
Chris Kajioka and Anthony Rush, chef-owners of the acclaimed Senia restaurant, plan to open a new restaurant next fall on Maui.
Ondine, slated for the Hotel Wailea, will focus on ingredients from Maui, and its kitchen will have exclusive relationships with island farms. The restaurant will offer three distinct features: a private, interactive chef’s kitchen with tasting counter for groups of six to 20, a garden terrace overlooking the kitchen and a treehouse private dining space for groups of eight.
The restaurant is backed by Senia investor Jonathan McManus, who is also an owner of Hotel Wailea.
Kajioka and Rush took the Hawaii restaurant scene by storm in December when they opened Senia, which quickly garnered a James Beard Award nomination and international praise. The restaurant is located in downtown Honolulu.
The chefs will be traveling to New York for a Nov. 9 dinner at the James Beard House to launch Ondine.
