UH soccer routed at Cal State Fullerton

The Hawaii soccer team went down 3-0 at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, its most lopsided defeat of the Big West season.

The Titans (11-4-3, 4-2-1 BWC) improved to 6-0 over UH (6-9-1, 1-5-1) as a conference opponent, this time punishing the Rainbow Wahine with a 22-2 shots advantage, including 13-0 on goal. The score would’ve been worse had UH goalkeeper Alexis Mata not saved a career-high 10 shots.

It was UH’s 11th straight loss on the Big West road, dropping it to 2-19-3 in six years of BWC away games.

Last-place UH wraps up the season at UC Riverside (7-10-2, 4-3) at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Chaminade men sixth in preseason poll

Chaminade was picked to finish sixth in the PacWest men’s basketball preseason poll and Silverswords guard Austin Pope was named to the first team, according to a league press release issued Thursday.

Chaminade finished with 132 points. Hawaii Pacific was seventh with 121 and Hawaii Hilo was voted 10th with 72. Cal Baptist was picked to win the 14-team league with 178 points.

Pope, a senior from Burbank, Calif., was voted last season’s conference newcomer of the year after averaging 12.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
