The Hawaii Pacific men’s and women’s cross country teams finished ninth at the PacWest Conference Championships on Saturday in Belmont, Calif.
Cal Baptist won the men’s division with 24 points. HPU finished with 223 and Chaminade was 12th and last with 359.
The Lancers’ McMarshall Hartzenburg won the 8K men’s race in 24:53.7. The Sharks’ top finisher was Amos Kipchumba (20th, 26:22.7) and the top Silverswords runner was Beau Larsen (79th, 30:36.1).

The Lancers’ Emeline Delanis won the 6K women’s race in 21:11.3. The Sharks’ top finisher was Kimberly Carter (25th, 22:41.0) and the top Silverswords runner was Olivia Mariucci (86th, 26:06.5).
The top runner for Hawaii Hilo, which didn’t field a team, was Anna Baker-Mikkelsen, who was 67th in 24:24.3.
Florence, Zietz claim first-round heats
Hawaii’s John John Florence and Sebastian Zietz won their first-round heats at the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal on Saturday in Peniche, Portugal.
Florence scored an 11.67 to beat Hawaii’s Mason Ho (3.67) and California’s Kanoa Igarashi (0.50).
Zietz scored a 9.77 and was followed by Australia’s Adrian Buchan (7.90) and Hawaii’s Ezekiel Lau (3.97).
Florence and Zietz advanced directly to the third round.
Lau will compete in the second round.
Hawaii’s Mason Ho lost to Brazil’s Gabriel Medina 11.66 to 6.33 in the second round.
Chaminade sweeps Hawaii Hilo
Kira Long recorded 14 kills as the Chaminade volleyball team defeated Hawaii Hilo 25-12, 25-15, 25-23 on Saturday at UHH gym.
Skyler Curry and Danielle Wiley each had 16 assists for the Silverswords (11-9, 6-6 PacWest).
Ashton Jesse had nine kills for the Vulcans (8-11, 5-7).

The Sharks fell to 7-13, 5-7 PacWest.
Cat Thomason recorded 12 kills for the Penguins (7-12, 6-5).
Sharks soccer teams swept by Argonauts
Ebony Madrid scored at 41:28, but the Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team fell to Notre Dame de Namur 2-1 in overtime Saturday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
The Sharks dropped to 6-8-1, 2-7-1 PacWest.
Ellie Mujushi scored the game-winner at 102:41 for the Argonauts (7-6-2, 4-4-2).
