Fire crews put out a kitchen fire at the Panda Express at Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo on Friday morning.
Eight firefighters responded to a 6:30 a.m. alarm and found a small fire confined to the restaurant’s kitchen area, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department.
No occupants were in the restaurant. While assessing the interior, firefighters found a propane gas line to an appliance on fire and shut off the gas. The fire was out at 6:40 a.m.
No estimated damage or cause of fire was available.
Makakilo brush fire extinguished quickly
Firefighters brought a brush fire that got close to homes Friday afternoon under control in less than an hour in Kahiwelo near Makakilo.
The fire was estimated to be roughly 3 to 5 acres.
The first Honolulu Fire Department company was dispatched at 2:50 p.m. to 91-546 Oawa St. Forty-six personnel from 15 units, including Air 1 used for observation only, responded to the blaze. The fire spread to a shed at a home at 92-619 Welo St. That fire was reported at 3:24 p.m. and was brought under control in three minutes.
