Mayor Kirk Caldwell nominated today two businesspeople to serve on the Honolulu Police Commission.

Karen Chang and Gerard “Jerry” Gibson were nominated to fill the vacancies left by Luella Costales and Marc Tilker.

The Honolulu City Council must confirm their appointments.

Chang has served as director and board chairwoman of Hawaii Pacific Health since 2009.

Gibson was named in September 2008 area vice president of Hilton Hotels and Resorts in Hawaii, Oregon, Las Vegas and Arizona and managing director of Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.

If confirmed, Gibson’s term would extend through June 30, 2018, at which time the mayor can re-appoint him to a full five-year term. Chang’s term would extend through June 30, 2021.

They would not be on the commission in time to vote on the next police chief.
