6 rescued off Maui in trio of incidents
Six people got into trouble on windy seas off Maui in separate incidents over the weekend.
On Saturday a 31-year-old woman and her young daughter encountered strong wind while stand-up paddling about 150 yards off Napili, according to a Maui Fire Department report. The girl’s father brought her back to shore on another stand-up board while a lifeguard brought the woman back on a watercraft.
On Sunday two women on a flotation device were unable to make it back to shore near the Royal Lahaina Resort. Surfers brought them back in before firefighters arrived.
But firefighters noticed a man and woman about a quarter-mile offshore who appeared to be having difficulty. A lifeguard used a rescue watercraft to bring both safely back in.
