Las Vegas casinos turned off their marquee lights last week to honor the victims of the mass shooting at a concert on the Strip one week earlier.

The salute took place at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, one week to the minute since the shooting, and lasted for 11 minutes, with most of the Strip casinos taking part.

Elaborate tributes also took place at the inaugural Vegas Golden Knights hockey game and a major UFC event, while the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign has become the unofficial homage point for the public.

Gaming convention

The Global Gaming Expo came and went with relatively little attention, overshadowed by the shooting. As expected, hot topics at the casi

no industry’s biggest and most important convention and trade show included sports betting legalization and gambling on e-sports. Attendance was reported at about 26,000.

Moulin Rouge demolished

The long-shuttered Moulin Rouge has been demolished. After a fire last week, one of many at the location over the years, what remained of the building was torn down. Some side buildings on the complex are still standing.

Garduno’s closing

After opening with the casino in 1994, Garduno’s is closing at Fiesta Rancho. It will be replaced by a restaurant and entertainment venue out of California called Culichi Town, specializing in Sinaloa-style Mexican cuisine. With the Palms location closing a couple years ago, there are no more Garduno’s outlets in Nevada.

Question: Are there any updates on the legalization of sports betting outside of Nevada?

Answer: The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the New Jersey sports betting case on Dec. 4. If the court finds that the existing Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act is unconstitutional, it will open the door for legalized sports betting nationwide.

A ruling isn’t expected until the middle of 2018.
