Ka Makana Alii, Kapolei’s new regional mall, will have fireworks, entertainment and sales this month to celebrate its one-year anniversary.
Anniversary events run from Oct. 20 through Oct. 22 with with Hawaiian music and other entertainment and prize giveaways.
Shoppers can enter at guest services near Applebee’s to win a 49ers Field Pass Experience, which includes two tickets to a game, field passes and round-trip airfare for two to San Francisco.
Hawaiian Electric warns of scams
Hawaiian Electric Companies have begun a monthlong campaign to alert customers about a recent spike in aggressive phone scams targeting customers.
The utilities say the following are scams if:
>> A customer receives a call from someone saying they are from Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric or Hawaii Electric Light demanding immediate payment over the phone or via prepaid debit cards;
>> The caller says your account is delinquent and threatens to shut off your power immediately unless payment is made;
>> The caller asks to meet you to pick up a payment.
Big Island workshop, job fair slated
The Hawaii County Workforce Development Board is holding its fourth annual Job Fair and Job Readiness Workshop this month.
The workshop, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Aunty Sally’s Luau Hale, will help participants prepare for the job fair with guidance on resume writing, interviewing skills, properly completing an application and instruction on dressing for success. To retain copies of their new, updated resumes, participants will need to provide their own flash drives.
The job fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26, at Edith Kanakaole Tennis Stadium, will host over 80 islandwide businesses looking for employees to fill vacancies. Participants should come prepared with resumes and in professional attire, as interviews may be done on site. Many participating businesses will offer door prizes.

Bankoh donates $100K to PBS program
Bank of Hawaii Foundation is donating $100,000 to Hiki No, PBS Hawaii’s statewide digital learning program.
The program serves 90 public, private and charter schools across the state through project-based learning that aims to prepare students for the workforce.
The bank said it has supported the program since its launch in 2011.
