Hawaii Red Cross volunteers fan out to mainland, Puerto Rico
A total of 65 Hawaii Red Cross volunteers have been deployed to assist with disasters across the country — including two to Las Vegas.
The American Red Cross of Hawaii announced this morning that two volunteers from Oahu have gone to Las Vegas to assist emergency officials with health and mental health services following Sunday night’s tragic shooting.
A total of 63 Hawaii Red Cross volunteers have also been deployed to provide shelter, food, comfort and hope to victims of back-to-back hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria over the past six weeks.
For Harvey, a total of 34 volunteers were deployed: 15 from Oahu, 11 from the Big Island, six from Maui, and two from Molokai. For Irma, a total 23 volunteers were deployed: 12 from Oahu, four from Kauai, three from Maui and three from the Big Island. For Maria, a total of six volunteers were deployed: two from the Big Island, and four from Oahu.
Four Hawaii Red Cross team members are also assisting virtually; one Big Island volunteer will be assisting as a call agent, one Oahu volunteer is assisting with shelter population counts, another is assisting with disaster mental health, and a staff member is assisting with Service to the Armed Forces Hero Care call center and casework.
