The Honolulu Medical Examiner has identified the bicyclist who was fatally struck Wednesday by a dump truck in Kalihi as Victorio Padilla.
Padilla was a 69-year-old Honolulu resident.
The Medical Examiner determined that Padilla died due to complications from multiple blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle accident.
Police have opened a negligent-homicide case.
Police Lt. Andre Peters of the Vehicular Homicide Section said Padilla rode his bicycle, crossing North King Street from the makai to the mauka side of the street, and continued on the sidewalk in the Diamond Head direction before riding into the crosswalk in the opposite direction of traffic.
He said the dump truck driver was on Kaili Street and made a stop at the red light before turning right in the Ewa direction on King Street.
The driver struck the bicyclist at 12:19 p.m. in the crosswalk at the intersection of Kaili and King streets, and ended up on King Street, Peters said.
