Los Angeles Clippers stars Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan thrilled Stevenson Middle School students during the dedication of a new computer lab on Monday.
The Clippers Foundation gifted the computers, a TV and an air conditioning unit to the school at a value of upwards of $40,000, according to Stevenson principal Linell Dilwith. Dilwith said she connected with the Clippers in May via the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
“This is a first for Stevenson, and really a first for our kids,” said Dilwith, who said it doubled school-wide computer access for the students. “The best part was the players’ interaction with the students. This will be memories that they have forever.”
The Clippers have been in town for preseason camp since Sept. 26 and will play the second of two preseason games against the Toronto Raptors at the Stan Sheriff Center at 7 p.m. today.
“The state of Hawaii’s been awesome to us this past week and welcomed us with open arms in our training camp,” Jordan said. “Our families have been here. So any small thing we can do to help give back is what we want to do. Hopefully we’ll continue to come back here in years to come and make this our second home.”
Said Griffin: “People always helped us out. There’s a lot of people in my life who are responsible for me being where I am. I wouldn’t be where I am without them. It’s important to give back and help as much as you can because you don’t know who you’re going to affect or how you’re going to affect them.”
