Northeasterly trade winds are expected to return by midweek, which should help blow away any lingering Kilauea vog in the Honolulu area. After a hazy Sunday, during which air quality dipped into the “moderate” level of acceptability, the index rebounded to the satisfactory level by midday Monday. But we can expect more muggy, voggy days this month as weather conditions shift from summer to winter. University of Hawaii scientists tracking trade wind trends say the breezes are not as dependable as they used to be. Several decades ago, trades cooled Honolulu roughly 300 days a year. Now the figure’s much closer to 200.
NBA in Hawaii turns into a waiting game

Game 1 at the Stan Sheriff Center saw a massive bottleneck at the doors, which kept hundreds of frustrated, upset fans from entering on time; many didn’t even get admitted till nearly halftime.
Unacceptable. Hawaii folks rarely see pro-skill sports here, and having disorganization ruin the outing is a burn. The powers-that-be apologized for the problems, citing extra security measures, and saying that those who missed Sunday’s first quarter could bring that ticket in for complimentary entry into today’s 5 p.m. game. Word to the wise: Go early, very early.
