Hawaii Pacific sophomore forward Ebony Madrid scored her third goal with two seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the HPU women’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Dixie State on Tuesday in St. George, Utah.
Madrid also scored in the 19th and 34th minutes for the Sharks (5-3, 1-2 PacWest). Junior forward Josefine Von Der Burg recorded two assists in HPU’s first conference win.
Alexa Estridge and Jill Bennett scored for the Trailblazers (6-2, 1-2 PacWest).
HPU will return to the pitch on Saturday and face Holy Names at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park at 12:30 p.m.

The Cougars (2-3-1, 2-0-1 PacWest) finished with 20 shots, nine of them on goal, while the Vulcans (3-3-1, 0-2-1) managed eight shots, with three on goal. UHH senior goalkeeper Jenna Hufford tied her season high with nine saves in the draw.
The Vulcans return to Hilo and face Academy of Art at Kamehameha-Hawaii’s campus on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Dixie State downs HPU men’s soccer in 2OT
Dixie State’s Gabby Medina scored in the 103rd minute as the undefeated PacWest leader edged the Hawaii Pacific men’s soccer team 2-1 in double overtime on Tuesday in St. George, Utah.
Senior Mario Garcia Velez scored the Sharks’ lone goal in the 83rd minute off a cross by freshman Jordan Coxall. HPU fell to 2-4-1 overall and 0-3 in the PacWest.
Bryan Baugh scored the Trailblazers’ first goal in the 60th minute off a corner kick. Dixie State improved to 7-0 overall, 3-0 in the PacWest.

The Cougars responded five minutes later when Kaleb Armbrust flicked in a shot from 10 yards out to tie the match 1-1, and APU took the lead before the half on a goal by Danny Madrigal. Rene Santos secured the Cougars’ win with a goal in the 86th minute.
Hendrickson, Asing win heats at Cascais
Maui’s Tanner Hendrickson clinched Heat 6 in the first round of the EDP Billabong Pro Cascais on Tuesday in Cascais, Portugal. Hendrickson scored a 14.50 to edge Maxime Huscenot (13.17), Brett Simpson (11.17), and Kauai’s Dylan Goodale (9.77).
Keanu Asing won his second-round heat and advanced to Round 3 along with fellow local surfer Joshua Moniz, who came in second in his heat. Koa Smith and Seth Moniz missed the cut.
Hendrickson, Dusty Payne, Ezekiel Lau and Sebastian Zietz will complete their Round 2 heats today, surf permitting.
