I wish Robyn Ah Mow-Santos well as the new coach of the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team. She has heroic shoes to fill and is faced with demanding and unfair expectations.
That said, she needs to better understand how she represents herself, her team, the university and the state. No doubt if she wins, she can be “herself,” and dress as informally as she likes. Who cares? She can disrespect the opposing teams and their coaches and the fans as much as she likes. But if she loses, her defiant dress code will be an issue. And it should be.
Hawaii is the land of elegant informality. It should be easy for Ah Mow-Santos to represent herself with a little class. For her own sake.

Hawaii and world are out of balance
Our world here is askew.
Some Native Hawaiians don’t want the world’s astronomers to spend $1.4 billion to build an 18-story futuristic observatory atop Mauna Kea.
Some city stakeholders do want us taxpayers to spend no less than $9 billion to build a 20-mile neolithic Stonehenge that will dwarf Aloha Tower and poop out at Ala Moana Center.
Kim Jong Un has the means to nuke Honolulu, and President Donald Trump seems ready and willing to nuke him right back.

President Trump deserves respect
I am pleased to know that we are able to make a choice for a better life and to Make America Great Again. Those who show disrespect to our president elected by the people should hang their heads in shame.
This goes especially to those who are in elected office, who swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution. As our leaders, you are showing a bad example to our young people.
Show respect to our president, Donald John Trump.

Not much aloha for bank customer
Thank you, Star-Advertiser, for helping Louis Mendez solve his issue with Bank of America (“Isle customer told to visit mainland bank or lose credit card,” Aug. 28).
Many years ago, I worked for a mainland bank that was taken over by BOFA. Working conditions became too unbearable; I couldn’t wait to find another job.
Unfortunately, I kept their credit card. When I called customer service once, I could not believe how rude the person was. How sad their so-called customer service still is. I vowed never to deal with BOFA ever again.
Mendez should cancel that card, and don’t worry about his FICO score. I’m glad BOFA no longer has branches here.
