Police give description of suspect in fatal Chinatown shooting

A man was fatally shot at 1161 Maunakea St., Wednesday night, in Chinatown. Police reopened the roadway at 4:03 a.m. today but were still searching for the suspect.
Police are looking for a male suspect in connection with a deadly shooting in Chinatown.
At about 11:48 p.m. Wednesday, Maj. Larry Lawson of the Honolulu Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division said a male suspect approached a 34-year-old man on foot and allegedly shot him multiple times with a handgun fronting Maunakea Liquor & Grocery store at 1161 Maunakea St.
The victim sustained multiple gunshots to his torso. Police, Emergency Medical Services and the Honolulu Fire Department responded.
Paramedics transported the victim in critical condition to a trauma hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 12:29 a.m. Positive identification is pending.
A video taken by an area resident shortly after the shooting showed first responders administering CPR on the victim who was lying motionless on the sidewalk directly in front of the store entrance.
Police said the suspect, described to be in his 20s, fled on foot and entered a white hatchback-style vehicle that drove off in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as African-American, 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 240 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket at the time of the shooting.
Police temporarily shut down Maunakea Street to conduct an investigation. The roadway was reopened shortly after 4 a.m.
Police have initiated a second-degree murder investigation. Lawson said they have recovered surveillance video from the area today.
A man who works at Maunakea Liquor & Grocery declined to comment this morning on the shooting.
This is the second deadly shooting on Oahu in less than a week.
A shooting occurred in Waikiki early Saturday where a man carrying a rifle shot about seven to 10 rounds into a crowd standing outside Club Alley Cat.
Maleko Remlinger, 22, was killed in the shooting and two men were injured.
An Oahu grand jury indicted Jordan A. Smith, 18, Wednesday in connection with the Waikiki shooting
He was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree murder and four firearm offenses. Smith remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
Authorities are asking witnesses of the Chinatown shooting to call police.
