Seniors with low incomes have another opportunity to move into a rental apartment complex in Mililani Mauka.
Applications for one-bedroom units in a second 75-unit phase of Meheula Vista will be accepted until Oct. 15. A lottery to select tenants is scheduled for late November. Units should start to be ready for occupancy in the spring.
Meheula Vista is being developed with four phases by an arm of Catholic Charities Hawai‘i. An initial phase opened in January and is full.
To qualify, prospective residents must be at least 55 and may not earn more than 60 percent of Honolulu’s annual median income, which equates to $43,980 for one person or $50,220 for two people. Some units are reserved for households earning up to 30 percent or 50 percent of the median income.
Monthly rent at the lowest income level is $565. At the midlevel, rent is $900. And at the highest level, rent is $950.

Yellen silent about a second term
WASHINGTON >> Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen is staying mum about whether she wants a second term as the head of the U.S. central bank. Yellen says she intends to serve out her four-year term. That term ends Feb. 3. Yellen declined to say at a news conference whether she would like to serve a second term.

Armstrong Builders has named Matt Brittan as project engineer. He will be responsible for material procurement, estimating and subcontractor management on the Kalama Kai and Keala o Wailea projects on Maui. Prior to joining the company, Brittan served as a project engineer for Hensel Phelps on Oahu as well as a project manager at Gerloff Painting in Norfolk, Va.
HomeBridge Financial Services has named Kianna Leomiti as mortgage loan originator for its new Kona office. She will specialize in residential mortgage loan origination and refinancing. Leomiti has worked in the real estate industry for 12 years, including serving as an assistant vice president at Fidelity National Title as well as escrow officer at First American Title.
Keith Sato rejoins Bank of Hawaii as vice president and relationship manager in Institutional Services. He was originally hired in 1994 as a private banking officer, spending five years with BOH, then spent 17 years in Tokyo trading Asian equities for U.S.-based institutional clients for the Global Equities Division of Lehman Brothers, Japan, then as executive director of Nomura Securities Co. Ltd.
