Oahu grand jury indicts teen in carjacking of elderly man’s vehicle
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment today charging an 18-year-old man in connection with a carjacking in Kalihi.
Shayddon Lizardo-Calarruda was indicted on charges of kidnapping, second-degree robbery and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $50,000.
On the morning of Sept. 5 at the parking lot of Marukai Wholesale Mart, 2310 Kamehameha Highway, a 76-year-old man was seated in the passenger seat of his vehicle when a male suspect later identified as Lizardo-Calarruda opened the driver’s side door and started the ignition, according to a court document.
Lizardo-Calarruda brandished an unknown object and threatened the victim before driving toward the parking lot exit, police said.
When the victim pleaded to be let out, Lizardo-Calarruda forced him out of the vehicle and drove off, police said.
Police issued a bulletin and released surveillance images of Lizardo-Calarruda, seeking the public’s help in locating him.
