Big Isle firefighters battle warehouse fire
Big Island firefighters battled a warehouse fire in Kailua-Kona early today.
The fire occurred in the Kohaniki Industrial area off of Hulikoa Street shortly after 5 a.m. More than 25 firefighters responded to the blaze at the structure that houses vehicle towing, storage, restoration and trailer sales’ businesses.
The Hawaii County Fire Department said the fire fully engulfed one of the five compartments of the warehouse and had spread to two connected warehouse bays.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 5:55 a.m., preventing the blaze from spreading to two other bays. The blaze was fully extinguished it at 6:30 a.m.
The fire department said three of the five bays and its contents were destroyed in the fire.
No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage has been estimated at $900,000.
