Firefighters evacuate Central YMCA due to fire on second floor

A fire was reported on the second floor of Central YMCA. People are being evacuated tonight.

A fire at the Central YMCA on Atkinson Drive led to the evacuation of about 80 residents tonight.

Fire fighters got a call at 7:44 p.m., arrived at 7:50 p.m., and the fire was out at 8:01 p.m., according to fire department officials.

Ten fire companies with 39 fire fighters responded to the two-alarm fire.

The fire was contained to one room on the second floor. The fire began in the bedding of the room, fire officials said.

Residents on the third and fourth floors were evacuated. No one was injured in the fire.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation and the damage has been estimated to be less than $1,000.
