Brown water, wastewater advisories issued for 3 Oahu coastal areas
The state Department of Health issued a brown water advisory for Ala Moana lagoon and Waimea Bay on Oahu on Wednesday, which remains in effect today.
While not all coastal areas may be affected by runoff, the department’s clean water branch recommends staying out of the water if it’s brown, due to possible pathogens and pollutants from storm water runoff.
• High surf advisory in effect for south shores of all islands
• High bacteria levels foul Big Isle beaches
A sewage spill was also reported at Honolulu Harbor due to a clogged pipe, and the public is also advised to stay out of the waters between the Aloha Tower Marketplace and the Falls of Clyde until warnings are removed. An estimated 400 gallons of discharge flowed into a storm drain in the area and, while city crews were able to recover most of it, the remainder of the discharge may have reached harbor waters.
