A 60-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged assault in Waikiki.
Clarence K. Kaili was charged Tuesday with second-degree assault of a 62-year-old man. His bail has been set at $11,000.
At about 8:50 p.m. Monday, police said a man identified as Kaili struck the complainant with an unspecified dangerous instrument, causing injury. Police arrested him afterward.
He has a criminal record that includes resisting arrest, prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia, liquor in public places, driving under the influence of an intoxicating liquor and promoting a detrimental drug.
Man dies after moped crash in Aiea
A 39-year-old man died Wednesday after the moped he was operating struck a mailbox in Aiea, Emergency Medical Services said in a report.
Police said the man lost control of the moped and collided with the mailbox in the area of 98-1216 Kaonohi St. at 6:34 p.m.
Paramedics treated the man and transported him by ambulance in critical condition to an area hospital, EMS said.
Pearl City man dies after trouble in water
A 69-year-old Pearl City man died after he was found unresponsive in the ocean off Punaluu.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Clifford Takesono, and an autopsy was performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Sometime before 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, Takesono was diving alone off Punaluu when he got into trouble, said Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright. A friend spotted him unresponsive in water off 53-103 Kamehameha Highway, brought him to shore and yelled for help.
Enright said bystanders called 911. EMS efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said there were no signs of foul play.
Installation work to close Hoomaluhia road
The roadway to Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden will be closed until noon Thursday for the installation of speed bumps near the entrance gate on Luluku Road.
The city Department of Parks and Recreation announced the morning closure for the installation of seven yellow speed bumps to help slow vehicles that travel at speeds above the posted limit of 15 mph.
