Police have initiated an arson investigation in connection with a two-alarm fire that damaged a home in Ewa Beach.

Shortly after 10:20 p.m. Monday, nine units with 31 firefighters responded to the fire at 91-214 Makalea St. When they arrived, firefighters observed smoke emanating from the structure, said Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. David Jenkins.

When they entered the home, they discovered a fire in the master bedroom. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 10:56 p.m. and extinguished it at 11:08 p.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

Jenkins said Honolulu fire investigators are at the scene today. The cause of the fire and damage estimate have yet to be determined.

According to a preliminary police investigation, an unknown male suspect entered the home sometime between 8:16 p.m. and 8:29 p.m. and allegedly started a fire before he fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect was wearing a dark-colored ski mask, light-colored jacket and pants and slippers at the time of the fire.

There are no arrests at this time.
