A 4-year-old girl was injured after she fell to the ground from a second-floor window of a home in Kalihi.
Shortly before 1:20 p.m. Sunday, police and Emergency Medical Services said, she fell from the window of a Aupuni Street home.
Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported the child in serious condition to a hospital.
Police said she was in critical condition.
Fire destroys house on Big Island
Hawaii island firefighters extinguished a fire that destroyed a home in North Kohala.
At about 7 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a call of a structure fire at an old single-family home on agricultural land on Kapaau Road.
When they arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames and collapsing.
The fire also caused multiple propane tanks on the property to explode and arcing power lines to fall to the ground, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 10 p.m. and extinguished it at 11:30 p.m. The home was unoccupied at the time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Man in distress off Maui is rescued
A man was taken to a hospital after bystanders saw him in distress at Ulua Beach in Wailea.
Shortly after 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Maui fire crews responded to a call of a man in his 50s to 60s whom people in a canoe pulled to shore near the Wailea Elua Village condominium.
The Maui Fire Department said he may have had a “medical emergency” in the water.
When firefighters arrived they found bystanders, including a firefighter visiting Maui, administering CPR. The man regained a pulse and was taken in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Victim in motorcycle crash identified
Hawaii island police have identified a man who died in a motorcycle crash Sunday in Paauilo as 43-year-old Glennon Pine.
According to police, Pine was traveling west on Hauola Road near Pohakea Road around 2:47 p.m. when his 1998 Yamaha motorcycle ran off the road and crashed.
Pine was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he later died.
Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash, police said.
Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call Officer Erhard Autrata at 961-2339 or CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.
This is the 25th traffic fatality on Hawaii island this year, compared with 16 at the same time last year.
