A “miscommunication” has cost Kapolei High School a regular-season victory.
The school acknowledged in a statement that the Hurricanes will forfeit their 41-7 win over Castle on Aug. 19.
“A miscommunication occurred regarding the dates and amount of football games ARS student-athletes were prohibited to participate in, per league rules. The ARS student-athletes were disallowed from competing in the first two games (Campbell and Waianae), then we grade checked for the first two weeks of school as we do every year, and everyone on ARS passed their grade check with passing grades.
“This year, because school started later, the 2-week grade check period ended on a Monday, due to a state holiday the previous Friday. As such, we failed to recognize the eligibility deadline. Hence, an ineligible player was allowed to participate.”
The Hurricanes self-reported the error.
