Hawaii head coach Eran Ganot looks on from the sideline during a basketball game between the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the Cal Poly Mustangs in February at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The Hawaii basketball team’s complete 2017-18 schedule was released today, including 20 home games at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Nonconference opponents previously not announced by UH or reported by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser are: Division II Adams State (Nov. 27); Division II Hawaii Hilo (Dec. 9); Utah Valley (Dec. 17); and Howard (Dec. 29).

Schedule highlights previously reported include former WAC rival Nevada on Nov. 24, a game at Utah of the Pac-12 on Dec. 2, and Miami of the Atlantic Coast Conference to open the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22.

UH reverted to playing a pair of D-II teams in the regular season after going down to one last season.

As previously reported, the season begins Nov. 10 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic. There will be a Nov. 1 preseason exhibition against Hawaii Pacific.

“We play in one of the great venues in the country,” UH coach Eran Ganot stated in a release. “And the opportunity to host 20 homes games right here in the Stan Sheriff Center is exciting for us and for our great fanbase who make it such a tough place to play. We’ll need that support against some pretty tough competition this year. We take great pride in hosting two nationally regarded tournaments filled with NCAA-caliber squads. We’ll also face a 28-win Nevada team fresh off one of its best seasons in recent history.”

UH, which went 14-16 last season (8-8 Big West), opens 16 games of conference play at Long Beach State on Jan. 4. The Rainbow Warriors cap the regular season on the road for the fourth straight year, at Cal State Fullerton on March 3 followed by the Big West tournament in Anaheim, Calif., March 8.

“Our nonconference schedule should prepare us well for the Big West Conference season,” Ganot said. “Last year there were a lot of new faces around the league. This year, with the continuity among coaches and a number of talented players returning, the conference as a whole should continue to make strides. It promises to be an exciting league race from start to finish.”
