Maui snorkeling fatality is identified

Honolua Bay, north of Kapalua, Maui, is a popular destination for snorkel cruises.
A 58-year-old man who died after he was found unresponsive in Honolua Bay on Maui has been identified as William Torrie of Alberta.
Shortly after 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, police said, emergency crews responded to a report of an unresponsive snorkeler who was pulled to shore. The Maui Fire Department said Torrie was snorkeling with family when he was found.
Bystanders performed CPR on Torrie until lifeguards, paramedics and fire personnel arrived. Efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy will be done to determine exact cause of death.

Paramedics transported three people to a hospital after they were involved in a head-on collision in North Kona.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Big Island firefighters responded to a report of a collision of a full-size truck and an SUV at the 88-mile marker on Highway 19 (Queen Kaahumanu Highway).
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the truck driver, described as in his 30s. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition.
Paramedics also transported the SUV driver, described as in his 60s, and his female passenger in her 30s to the hospital. The Hawaii County Fire Department said the extent of their injuries was unclear, but the woman’s condition appeared to be critical.
