3 hospitalized after head-on crash in Kona
Paramedics transported three people to a hospital after they were involved in a two-vehicle head-on collision in North Kona.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Hawaii County firefighters responded to a report of a collision involving a full-size truck and a sport utility vehicle at the 88-mile marker on Highway 19 (Queen Kaahumanu Highway).
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the truck driver described to be in his 30s. He was taken to Kona Hospital in critical condition.
Paramedics also transported the SUV driver described to be in his 60s and his female passenger in her 30s to the hospital. The Hawaii County Fire Department said the extent of their injuries was unclear at this time, however, the woman’s condition appeared to be critical.
