A 24-year-old California woman was killed today when the moped she was riding crossed the center line and collided into a flatbed truck in Makena, Maui.

Maui police identified the woman as Alexis Patrice Jenkins of New Castle, Calif.

Police said Jenkins was not wearing a helmet at the time and died at the scene.

Jenkins was heading northbound on Makena Alanui Road at about 2 p.m. when she crossed the center line and hit the southbound truck, police said.

The driver of the white 2018 Chevrolet flatbed truck was a 74-year-old Kihei man. He and his passengers were not injured.

This was Maui County’s sixth traffic fatality for 2017 compared with 11 the same time last year.
